This long-awaited photobook compiles the works originally presented in the exhibition nominated for the 48th Ihei Kimura Award in 2023. As the fourth installment in Toshiya Murakoshi’s ongoing series documenting Fukushima since March 2011, this volume features a meticulously curated selection from his latest exhibition. To honor Murakoshi's craftsmanship, every effort was made to replicate the delicate nuances of his hand-made silver gelatin prints through high-quality offset printing.
Following the disaster in March 2011, Murakoshi felt a sense of disconnect with the influx of images and videos that carried heavy-handed messages or intentional narratives. Driven by a deep inquiry into the fundamental meaning of the photographic medium, he has continued to explore the original landscapes of his hometown, Fukushima.
Within his monochrome world, a profound silence—as if the air itself has frozen—coexists with the strangely resonant sound of the wind. Within that sound, one can almost hear the voices of prayer for those lost to the tsunami, a quiet resonance that lingers long in the hearts of those who witness it.
