Volume 23 of Iwanami Shoten's series The Japanese Photographers, devoted to Yosuke Yamahata, known for photographs recording Nagasaki on 10 August 1945, the day after the atomic bombing. Taken at the army's request amid the scorched ruins and the victims, the series is regarded as one of the most important records conveying the catastrophe of the bomb. The volume traces, through plates, chronology, and commentary, the life and work of Yamahata, who was also active in journalism and advertising.
