This volume is a scrapbook-like integration of photographs taken by artist Yurie Nagashima.
Long out of print since its second edition in 2011, this book marks its return after 13 years with a new reprint.
Shortly before visiting Switzerland for the residency, the artist discovered a small box containing color photographs of flowers taken 25 years earlier by her late grandmother, who had been an avid gardener. Looking at each photograph, the author re-experienced the gaze her grandmother directed toward the flowers and was astonished by the existence of her grandmother’s loving heart that remained across time.
Prompted by this discovery, the book includes images of plants she photographed at Village Nomade while thinking of her late grandmother, as well as pictures of her son who accompanied her, and scenes from the interior spaces where they stayed.
By reading the photographs alongside the diary entries, the reader can sense the subtle emotional nuances of the artist during that period. The book design was handled by Bunpei Yorifuji and Chikako Suzuki of the design studio Bunpei Ginza.
