Star Fragments Ⅱ Kasumi Osada
Pickup currently unavailable
A new photobook by Kasumi Osada, a photographer born in Shizuoka and currently based in Tokyo.
The series Stardust emerged from Osada’s contemplative gaze at stones she has collected since her childhood. By touching the traces of time etched into these stones, she experienced a quiet connection between her inner self and the outer world—a profound rebirth of the act of "touching the world" through the medium of photography.
In Stardust II, this gaze deepens, observing the marks of time left upon stones, humans, and memories alike. On one side, a continuous line of stones emerges like portraits of distant existences imbued with memory. On the other, fragments of skin, landscapes, and moments appear as scattered traces of time within the everyday. As the boundaries between macro and micro dissolve, the textures of the stone and these fleeting images begin to resonate with one another.
The accordion-fold (leporello) binding serves as a device to visualize the sensation that all things are interconnected. Moving back and forth through its pages becomes a quiet meditation on the layers of time, tracing the ephemeral space between existence and eternity. From a cosmic perspective, perhaps stones, people, and memories are all merely "stardust" drifting within the same great cycle. This book represents a single point in an ongoing, experimental journey.
