A photobook Masao Yamamoto published through T&M Projects in 2021, the record of a small, nature-rich village in the Ardeche region of southern France, which he has gone on photographing in deep engagement ever since visiting it with his wife in 2013. In Yamamoto's characteristic manner, small prints that make use of empty space, together with humble motifs of trees, water, light and the works of human life, are quietly strung together like a poem, the whole volume edited like an album of memory. The time of a village where nature and human living dissolve into one rises up with a texture at once fleeting and sure. The French writer Marie-Helene Lafon, winner of the 2020 Prix Renaudot, contributes the text, making a book in which photographs and words resonate together. A serene collection showing the recent attainment of an artist known internationally for his consistent gaze upon 'small things.'
