A newly revised edition of Small Things in Silence, originally published in 2014 by Masao Yamamoto. Based in the lush natural surroundings of Hokuto City, Yamanashi, near the Yatsugatake Mountains, Yamamoto has earned international acclaim for his lyrical photography that captures the ecological and formal beauty of nature—from the powerful, weathered roots of ancient trees to the wind-rippled surfaces of lakes, wild birds, and delicate spiderwebs.
This volume traces 40 years of his creative journey, including early works from A Box of Ku and e / ゑ (originally published by Nazraeli Press). The printing faithfully reproduces the unique texture, atmosphere, and tonality of Yamamoto’s original silver gelatin prints. Arranged in a sequence meticulously curated by the artist to emphasize the continuity between images, the book invites readers to immerse themselves in a worldview steeped in traditional Japanese aesthetics such as Wabi-sabi, Mono no aware, and Yugen.
