A collection of photographic works Miwa Yanagi published through Amus Arts Press in 2001, the first title in the photography series 'Snap Art Collection.' Its Japanese title means 'waking in the dead of night.' Taking as her subject the ambiguous zone between dream and waking, like a consciousness that stirs suddenly at midnight, Yanagi raises up images of girls and women within a fantastical atmosphere. Made when the artist, who had drawn attention with her Elevator Girls series, was widening her concerns toward memory, time and femininity, it carries the air of the narrative, allegorical world found in My Grandmothers, begun around the same time. Produced as a small volume in a series, it circulated only in limited numbers and is now hard to obtain. It is an intriguing early work reflecting a transitional period, as the artist moves from the anonymity of the Elevator Girls toward narrative.
