Mēdeia2.0 is a publishing label launched as an offshoot of Project Mēdeia1.0, which was established to use fashion as a medium to spread awareness of events and social issues around the world captured by photographers both in Japan and abroad.
While Mēdeia1.0 highlights piercing truths, Mēdeia2.0 focuses on the ‘white space’ of thought and emotion, while also drawing out new charms from the photographs and works through elaborate printing and book design.
The second issue features Stefano De Luigi, a photographer based in Paris.
From 2003 to 2007, he collaborated with the non-profit organisation Christian Blind Mission Italia to document the current situation of visually impaired people in a wide range of countries, including Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Thailand, China, Laos, Vietnam, Bulgaria, and Lithuania. Stefano was drawn to the unique world and emotions of people who cannot see, and by honestly documenting their lives, he gradually synchronised the contrasting characteristics of his profession as a photographer, which requires the ability to see.
This book challenges the reader to grasp both the world that can be perceived because one cannot see and the world that can be perceived because one can see.
