"The reality of never being able to see your most precious person again." In the spring of 2011, after bidding farewell to her beloved husband, Futoshi—who passed away surrounded by family, friends, and their small black dog, Mimi—time quietly stood still for photographer Hiromi Nakajima. With her heart constantly wandering into the past, leaving her unable to even take photographs, it was the silence of the empty mountains that finally called her back to the "present."
In Memory of Haru no Taki is a photobook that traces the author's journey of reclaiming a fundamental connection to life. It chronicles her process of stepping into the forest while carrying deep sorrow, and communing with nature.
Feeling the wind brush her cheeks, she takes a deep breath. As she feels her own breath melting into the forest air, the author arrives at a realization: every single leaf on the trees, the birds, the ebb and flow of the tides, the movement of the stars, and even her departed husband and the faithful Mimi—none are disconnected. Everything is, in truth, connected.
Compiled with her thoughts turned toward the mountains of Niseko and the spring waterfall, this book quietly yet powerfully conveys the preciousness of the loved ones who were certainly there, and the warmth of unseen bonds with every turn of the page.
