*Available only in EuropeA collection compiled to mark the centenary of the birth of Hiroshi Hamaya (1915-1999), the first Japanese photographer to join Magnum Photos (crevis). Centering on his early and mature work from the 1930s to the 1950s, it surveys the deep gaze toward land and people represented by Snow Land and Japan's Back Coast, which recorded life in the snowbound farming villages of the Hokuriku region. Beginning in photojournalism, Hamaya captured the nature and life of Japan in epic terms; the volume traces his origins and achievement through abundant plates.
