From Hiroshima Miyako Ishiuchi
Pickup currently unavailable
This is a definitive, recompiled photobook of the landmark <Hiroshima> series by photographer Miyako Ishiuchi (born 1947), who has earned high international recognition, including becoming the first Asian woman to win the prestigious Hasselblad Award in 2014.
The volume features works that capture the "skin-close personal effects"—such as clothing and accessories—of atomic bomb victims preserved at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, expressed through Ishiuchi’s unique, sensitive methodology. The series has been thoroughly reconstructed to include new works taken since the original 2008 publication.
This essential book vividly illuminates the "evidence of life" and "aesthetic sense" of the people of that time, which resides within the remnants, often running contrary to the destructive history.
