A volume gathering Ikko Narahara's early masterwork Domains, published by the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) for its 2014 exhibition (131 pages). Composed of "Garden of Silence," made at a Trappist monastery in Hokkaido, and "Within the Walls," made at a women's prison in Wakayama, it contemplates the daily lives of people living at the extreme within two "domains" sealed off from society. Gathering 90 plates from the work first presented in 1958, it reconstructs from a present-day vantage the origin of a photographer who pioneered postwar Japanese avant-garde photography. A museum retrospective edition, distinct from the Chuokoron-sha book.
