The debut monograph by Yusuke Ide, a professional editor who explores the nature of the gaze through the medium of photography. In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Ide contracted the virus and lost his sense of smell for approximately six months.
This loss led him to focus intensely on his remaining senses, particularly sight and hearing. Driven by this new sensory curiosity, he acquired a mechanical film camera from the mid-20th century and began a journey of inquiry through analog shooting and darkroom printing. This volume showcases Ide’s unique perspective—a blend of the selective information-gathering skills honed as an editor and the conscious, physical act of manual photography. The book concludes with a contribution titled "On Perception by Machines" by renowned photographer Risaku Suzuki.
