DECOTORA Hachinohe Masaru Tatsuki
Pickup currently unavailable
About 14 years after the 2007 photobook "DECOTORA," which was the catalyst for photographer Masaru Tatsuki's debut, this photobook compiles works that face the Dekotora (decorated trucks) and their drivers in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, considered one of the birthplaces of Dekotora.
In this book, Tatsuki's gaze is directed not at the strong visual appeal of Dekotora emerging in the dark night with flashy painting, decorations, and dazzling lights, but at the appearance of the people who entrust their pride and aesthetic sense while holding the steering wheel of Dekotora as a tool of their trade, and the culture and activities unique to Hachinohe that exist behind them.
From Tatsuki's perspective, having continued to look at Dekotora as a form of expression, the existence of labor that supports our daily lives and the social landscape surrounding it emerge.
In addition to the works, an essay titled "Kazarino Ikizama" (The Way of Life of Decoration) written by Tatsuki about Dekotora is also included.
