Sunflower is a photobook by Daido Moriyama, one of Japan's most preeminent photographers.
Since beginning his freelance career in the mid-1960s, Moriyama has published numerous legendary works, including Japan, A Photo Theater and Farewell Photography. As a master of the street snapshot, his highly original style is instantly recognizable—characterized by high-contrast monochrome, blurred and out-of-focus abstraction, a subtle sense of eros, and a deep, humanistic affection for the city.
Published under Satoshi Machiguchi’s label "MMM" (Match and Company) and edited by Hisako Motoo, this volume is thoughtfully curated around the motif of "flowers." It evokes the poetic resonance of photographic masterpieces such as Joel Meyerowitz's Wild Flower and Robert Frank's Flower Is. This curated collection offers a beautiful and unique glimpse into the singular vision of a legendary artist.
