Wall : Looking Intently Akikami Kanda

    ¥4,950

This is a collection of works by photographer Akikami Kanda, who continues to work mainly in the northern Kanto region (Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Gunma prefectures) where he was born and raised. When the photographer looked into the water at a dam he visited one summer day, he was shocked to see a village submerged at the bottom. When he thought about the fact that the village was now submerged at the bottom, but that people had once lived here, he wondered if the water surface he was looking at might be bringing to mind various things, such as memories of the people who once lived there. This incident led the photographer to become fascinated by the relationship between "water and walls" that only exists in places called "dams," and this book contains photographs of concrete walls and water surfaces. The contrast between the immovable structure, built sturdy to serve the function of storing water, and the water surface swaying in the wind makes a lasting impression in this book.
