Yasuhiro Ishimoto is a representative 20th-century photographer known for capturing the affinity between traditional Japanese aesthetics and Western Modernism. Born in the United States and educated at the Institute of Design in Chicago, his signature work, Katsura (Katsura Imperial Villa), was photographed in 1954 following his second return to Japan.
This volume has been recompiled with a new editorial approach and the latest printing technology, including some works shot in 1981.
Readers can fully appreciate the essential, modernist beauty of the Katsura Imperial Villa, as captured by Ishimoto's refined eye, conveyed through exquisite monochrome photography.
