HANON Yoshinori Mizutani
Pickup currently unavailable
A collection of works by photographer Yoshinori Mizutani.
As a series following his masterpiece "TOKYO PARROTS," it contains works themed on the abnormally breeding great cormorants in the suburbs of Tokyo.
Although they are color photographs, the landscapes depicted in black and white gradations reminiscent of monochrome show an expression different from his early works known for their vivid colors.
Mizutani captures everyday urban landscapes such as power lines, rivers, and industrial zones. However, the countless cormorants filling those places transform the familiar scenery into a somewhat alien world.
The silhouettes of the birds are arranged on the screen like notes on a musical score, and combined with the flat composition, they create a unique visual experience that moves between reality and abstract expression. As indicated by the title "HANON," derived from a French piano exercise book, this book captures the quiet rhythms hidden within urban landscapes.
Along with the book design by Satoru Machiguchi, this volume demonstrates new possibilities for Mizutani's expression.
