The definitive retrospective volume from Kyuryudo (2006), issued to accompany the exhibition 'Shoji Ueda: The Art of Photography' at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in 2005–06. Edited by Ryuichi Kaneko and others, it selects some 160 works spanning early modernism through the celebrated series Warabegoyomi, A Short Biography, and Sand Dune Mode, offering a panoramic view of the staged idiom known as 'Ueda-cho.' Rooted to the last in the light and landscape of his native San'in region even as he won international renown, Ueda's career is traced here in superb reproduction, making this one of the most esteemed posthumous surveys of his work.
