Even So (translated from the Japanese Saredo) is a photobook by photographer Koji Wakita. The stage for this work is the Kansai region, primarily centered around the vibrant downtown areas of Osaka. Through Wakita's curious and affectionate gaze, the lively everyday lives of the people are captured in swift, masterful monochrome street snapshots.
Looking up at the sky after the rain, gazing blankly at blooming flowers, turning around after passing a wonderful person—while weaving together these casual everyday moments, his act of searching for "someone who shouldn't be forgotten" in unfamiliar towns is tinged with a blend of expectations for the passage of time and a lingering sense of attachment.
"Just a flash, yet a flash, short poems sparked by a small light. This dazzling yet almost joke-like reality will likely fascinate me for a while longer." — Koji Wakita (from the book's afterword)
The short poetic sentiments woven by the momentary light captured by his camera, along with the endearing nature of a dazzling yet somewhat humorous reality, make this a volume that never ceases to captivate its viewers.
