This is a photo book by Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi .
It was published in 2005 for an exhibition held at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris, France.
This book features photographs of Kawauchi's family and the landscapes of her hometown, Shiga Prefecture, taken over a 13-year period, from 1992 to 2005.
By focusing on ordinary scenes from everyday life and interspersing them with milestone events for the family, such as her brother's wedding, her sister's pregnancy and childbirth, and her grandfather's death, the book visually depicts the existence of the baton of life that has been passed down through the family.
