This is a collection of photographs by Kasumi Osada, a Japanese photographer born in Shizuoka Prefecture and currently based in Tokyo.
When she was a 14-year-old junior high school student, confined to her house, she happened to see a movie in which the main character used a film camera, which sparked her interest in photography. Since then, she has spent her days taking pictures of her surroundings and capturing them in albums for her own modest enjoyment, weaving a unique atmosphere that is calm and quiet but certainly has the her eye and warmth.
This book is a compilation of photographs taken with a compact digital camera while simultaneously recording the process of “picking up stones” at various beaches, which is one of the artist's hobbies.
In this book, the artist records the process of picking up stones along the seashore, bringing them home, and then facing them again and dreaming about them, recalling the eternal time that resides in the stones that have drifted ashore, changing their shapes over the years, and that he picked up. At the same time, she recalls her encounter with the stone, which triggered an outward turn of her introverted interest.
In addition, the book is accompanied by one or two stones that the artist actually collected and sealed by hand, depending on their size, to recreate the process of packing the stones in a Ziploc bag and taking them home.
This is designed to further draw the viewer into the fascination of the book and the stones.
