Winter to Spring Risaku Suzuki
Pickup currently unavailable
This volume compiles previously unpublished new works from the series "White / Sakura / Water Mirror," the lifelong project of photographer Risaku Suzuki, who hails from Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture.
The subjects—such as cherry blossoms, snow, and the sea—are familiar presences that have traditionally been depicted in Japanese tanka poetry and suiboku-ga (ink wash painting), often carrying strong, fixed connotations. Yet, the refreshing sensation conveyed by the photographer's work is due in large part to the striking clarity and gentle bokeh achieved with a large-format camera, combined with his unique approach: he deliberately avoids strict composition, choosing his focus point and the moment to press the shutter based on the surrounding light and wind.
The book opens with images capturing the Kumano sea, followed by a gentle, sequential progression through the seasons: drift ice, snowfields, cherry blossoms, and fresh greenery, moving from winter to spring and the season beyond. Each photograph connects with the viewer's own memory, possessing a profound depth that resonates within the heart.
