Solitude Standing Ichiro Kojima
Pickup currently unavailable
This photobook was created to commemorate the centenary of the birth of photographer Ichiro Kojima (born in Aomori, 1924).
Although Kojima's career as a photographer spanned only about ten years before his untimely death, during that time he utilized exceptional compositional skills and darkroom techniques (such as dodging and burning) to dramatically depict the harsh environment and the lives of the people in Japan's Tohoku region.
This volume focuses on the element of "solitude" and "aloofness" inherent in Kojima's work. It presents a new perspective by re-examining previously unpublished works preserved at the Aomori Museum of Art, compiled under the title Solitude Standing.
It is a striking publication that conveys his "solitary trajectory" to both those already familiar with Kojima's work and those discovering it for the first time.
