"I'm glad I had the camera. I'm truly glad I had photography." — Daido Moriyama
This is the most comprehensive retrospective collection of photographer Daido Moriyama, who stands at the pinnacle of the global photography world, having received the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography (2019) and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Chevalier (2018).
This volume was published as the official catalogue and book for the exhibition "Daido Moriyama: Memories of Light," held at the Shimane Art Museum (a location linked to Moriyama's childhood). It showcases the full scope of his 60-year photographic career with approximately 400 works and around 200 items of valuable archival material.
The images are presented chronologically, including private records from his boyhood, his time as Eikoh Hosoe's assistant, and album photos with close associates like Takuma Nakahira. Among the numerous collections published to date, this book is exceptionally rich in both visuals and text, making it the definitive volume for understanding the entirety of Daido Moriyama.
