Floating Landscape Koji Honda

This book is a compilation of evocative and atmospheric landscapes that gradually emerged for photographer Koji Honda over a period of six years. During this time, he maintained a routine of traveling to a rented house on a remote island, typically once a month via an overnight ferry, and living there for several days at a time.
He carried one or more cameras—a Barnack Leica, a Hasselblad, or a Rolleicord—loaded with either color or monochrome negative film, depending on the moment, to capture the island's natural environment. The photographs document the ever-changing nature of the landscape while simultaneously capturing the overwhelming natural power that he increasingly felt existed behind the scenes as he visited repeatedly.
The editing and book design were handled by the design unit smbetsmb (Keita Shimbo and Misako Shimbo). The book's final structure was meticulously created by confronting hundreds of prints spread across the floor, identifying key central images, and repeatedly rearranging the composition and sequence through a process of careful trial and error.
