This book is the definitive collection of calligraphy by Koga Hirano, a celebrated book cover designer and graphic artist known for his bold yet delicate lettering on numerous book covers. Koga is also recognized for his work on the posters and stage art for the theater troupe "Black Tent." On Koga's 82nd birthday, his photographer son, accompanied by his daughter, captured a day in his life. Enveloping the elderly Koga, the two young designers immersed themselves in carefully selecting lettering and artworks, diligently working on book layouts and bookbinding. The book is a collaborative effort led by Koga Hirano and a few other contributors, guided by the motto "like a picture book." The underlying theme is that letters are akin to landscapes—an idea inspired by Koga's own words. Alongside his calligraphy and essays, the book offers glimpses behind the scenes (captured by Taro Hirano), snippets from his undertakings at the Terakoya "Malte no Gakko" school (documented by the editorial team), and works by illustrators he admires (art by Takeshi Kojima). This vibrant compilation seamlessly weaves calligraphy, art, photography, and text together in a B5-sized volume with codex binding and numerous colorful pages.
