This catalogue features Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921–2012), a representative 20th-century photographer renowned for capturing the affinity between traditional Japanese aesthetics and Western Modernism.
The volume is the official catalogue for the exhibition held in 1996 at the National Film Center, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. It compiles works from Ishimoto’s later years, documenting his engagement with "transient things"—a theme he embraced late in his career while adhering to his lifelong commitment to authentic Modernism.
The book includes exquisite series focused on mundane, fleeting subjects such as clouds, fallen leaves and empty cans on the road, and vanishing footprints in the snow, through which Ishimoto found universal beauty of form and the vestiges of time.
