madori

Koji Honda, a Japanese photographer, published this photobook in conjunction with an exhibition held in April 2017 at HYKE, an interior shop in Nakameguro, Tokyo, specializing in Scandinavian furniture ranging from vintage to contemporary pieces.

These photographs are from his “madori” series, a lifelong project he pursued even before becoming independent from his mentor, photographer Akio Tomari, in 2009. While the natural landscapes, architecture, and streets depicted are all familiar scenes, the 6x6 square format reveals a beauty that had been quietly hidden within them.

The book design is by smbetsmb, the design unit formed by Keita Shinbo and Misako Shinbo.
