Journey into German Expressionism Kazuo Kitai
Pickup currently unavailable
This book documents a four-month journey undertaken by photographer Kazuo Kitai between 1979 and 1980, traveling through cities such as Amsterdam, Cologne, Hamburg, East and West Berlin, and Prague to photograph German Expressionist architecture and their streetscapes. Kitai describes these buildings as lacking both the decorations that show off power and the rationalist functional beauty of the Bauhaus, noting that "while seemingly full of contradictions, there is a fascination in how the architecture mimics certain forms". Published 40 years after the photographs were taken, this collection features 80 monochrome works, including many previously unpublished pieces.
